After visiting Prairie Barn Winery, we went to dinner at Spencer Manor Winery. Now we drove past St. James Winery, which was closed so I sort of had an image in my head already what this winery was going to look like. Well, I was shocked to be quite honest. The entrance on either side of the driveway are long steel beams but the building itself is a modern architecture with large windows, incredibly beautiful in a different way.

Spencer Manor Winery is St. James, Missouri’s newest winery that started making wines over 10 years ago but officially open its doors in 2019. The idea of this stop was to get an appetizer, dinner, and enjoy a flight of wine. After some discussion with a very moody toddler full of attitude we picked fresh bread as an appetizer this bread reminded us of bread in Ireland with it being so thick. However, it is a focaccia bread an Italian bread with airy interior and crisp golden crust it was topped with garlic and herbs. On the side was a garlic and honey butter.

Now for the wines we got two flights of four different wines. Michael’s selection: SMW Red, 2023 Norton, 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, and Solera Port. My selection: Traminette, Chambourcin Rose, 2022 Moscato, and Brut – Traditional Method. The wines hit the full spectrum from amazing to terrible. I traded my worst for Michael’s which was not a fair trade on Michael’s side that’s how bad mine was. My worst was the Rose and I traded it for Michael’s Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet had a weird green pepper aftertaste. Overall, Michael’s selection was the best with the Norton and the Port.
Lizzy picked the pizza we were going to have, a Meatball Pizza. Michael and I were not shocked. It was a pepper tomato sauce topped with mozzarella, house made meatballs and ricotta then finished with white sauce, parmesan and parsley. Probably a little too much ricotta but we all enjoyed it a lot! Also, as a note the music that was playing was like catered to my music taste of the late 2000s to early 2010s complete with older Taylor Swift music, Cold Play, and The National Parks. While enjoying dinner Michael realized that the winery also does Whiskey while he couldn’t do a full on tasting he ended up getting the Infinity Barrel. Side note: Lizzy took that photo of Michael.
After dinner we decided as we usually do at a semi-fancy restaurant that we will get dessert. Our dessert was Charlotte’s cake, which was a grandma’s recipe of a pineapple and pecan cake topped with whipped cream and candied pecans. Lizzy loved the whipped cream and nuts. Whoops we liked it so much I didn't get a picture....but it was amazing and looked great.
The service was wonderful, the wines (mostly) good, the food amazing, and the atmosphere of industrial classy modern was beautiful. To me the music selection was oddly my own music.
