Jowler Creek Winery near Platte City, is Missouri’s first green winery. They make choices throughout the year to positively impact the environment. They have various methods to minimize erosion and soil loss. They believe this helps make their grapes more delicious. And thus, their wines delicious and award winning
Now when we started going to Jowler we did not think they had good wine. Long time ago when I was still introducing Michael to wines, we had gone. I ordered us a bottle of Muskrat and we listened to a guy preforming music. The experience was terrible. The wine, the music, everything. Jowler Creek was our worst winery we had been to until Purple Toad in Kentucky.
We have gone a few times since then. Once during Covid, when the ownership I believed changed, we had a tasting with plastic cups and social distancing. We were extremely confused cause was the wine actually... good? Like to the point of being likeable. We raised the rating from F in our rating system to a C, still slightly unsure if we should actually raise it. We went later with Amber and thought "okay maybe this is good." Well, we went again in September 2025, and have then raised our rating of Jowler from C to A. This last visit wasn’t planned. We went quite spontaneously. I thought we had a party to go at a friends’ house well turned out I got the day wrong. Lizzy was excited to do a party or anything so we couldn’t just go home. They live close to Jowler so we decided to pop over for a tasting and hang out outside.
We arrived and paid for our tasting. They do tastings in a tasting room that is their storage and wine making room. One of the Chrises was our pourer. He was super friendly and wasn’t worried about telling which wines was his favorite and least favorite. We started with a Chardonnay which Michael and I were hesitant on because of the notes of being buttery. We’ve had a few that it feels like you are drinking butter. Surprisingly this was a mild butter notes. Of course, no Missouri winery can be complete without having a Norton, the state grape. It was a very nice wine. Beaver Blend was probably my favorite red they had it is a blend of Norton and Chambourcin. Vidal Blanc was probably my least favorite while Michael thought it was still good.

We also tried the Vignoles and RC Red. RC Red is a sweet red blend of Chambourcin and Concord. It is jammy, for sure. My favorite of the tasting was the apple sangria which comes in a growler. It’s one of their specialty wines. It’s like fall in a glass. It was so good. After much debate on which bottle to drink while enjoying the outside we went with Beaver Blend.
Lizzy the ever-social butterfly found a family to adopt and hang out with. They had an 18-month-old boy. She followed and played with him. Jowler currently had a little pumpkin patch and she tested her strength by redecorating and moving pumpkins around.
Lizzy later wanted something to eat. While looking at the menu I decided to try Jowler’s new pizza. We got double cheese. It was very good. Lizzy even finished her slice after going back and forth with her new friends. By the time it was time to go Lizzy was well known by the winery staff and other patrons. She joined a cornhole competition with people on a double date. One of the guys stated that Lizzy was on his team since she was an excellent player. While we left Lizzy shouted "bye friends" and got a chorus of "bye Lizzy" in return.
